Women's Track Posts Solid Marks In Outdoor Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - On Friday, March 28 two first place finishes on day one of the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational highlighted the women's track and field program's efforts. Becky Stoyle continued her dominance in the triple jump and Rachel Hilliard continued to impress in longer distance events.

Stoyle and Courtney Kromko each placed in the top eight of the triple jump with Stoyle leading the way with a mark of 40-feet, 11-inches. Kromko finished fifth in the event, leaping 38-feet, 0.75-inches.

Kromko placed in the top eight of the long jump as well, leading the Minutewomen with an 18-foot, 6-inch mark for a fourth place performance. Ashley Palmer and Stoyle finished fifth and sixth in the event respectively. Palmer posted a jump equaling 18-feet, 2.5-inches while Stoyle leaped 18-feet, 1.5-inches.

Kelsey Crawford cracked the top eight, finishing seventh in two throwing events. Crawford threw 42-feet, 2.25-inches in the shot put and 108-feet, 11-inches in the javelin. Also scoring in the field was Katie Osborne in the high jump tying for third place. The sophomore set a height of 4-feet, 11.75-inches.

On the track it was Hilliard that came out on top in the 1,500 meter run, completing the race in 4-minutes, 39.54-seconds.

Heather MacLean and Katie Powers set the pace for the Minutewomen in the 800 meter run with MacLean crossing the finish line third at the 2-minute, 14.45-second mark and Powers finishing in 2-minutes, 17.36-seconds for a seventh place finish.



UMass will wrap up its 2014 outdoor season opener at 9:00 AM, Saturday morning.
