Stoyle Claims Second Gold Medal Of The Indoor Season
Feb. 23, 2013
BOSTON, Mass. - On day two of the New England Championship it was once again Becky Stoyle who shined the brightest for the Minutewomen. With a jump of 40-feet, 6-inches the sophomore claimed her first New England Championship of her career and her second gold medal of the season. The Championship mark was a full 10.25-inches better than the second place opposition.
The Pembroke, Mass. native adds her New England Championship to a long list of accomplishments this indoor season. Last week Stoyle won her first A-10 Conference Championship in the triple jump, claiming the A-10 record in the event and besting her own UMass record that she had set earlier in the season. She also has been honored for her accomplishments by being awarded three UMass Athlete of the Week awards in a month's time.
The Minutewomen also scored in in the shot put thanks to Rachelle Bourque. The senior thrower threw 42-feet, 1.25-inches for eighth place overall. Also finishing in eighth place was Maria Marascia and Katie Powers. Marascia scored in the 500 meter dash, finishing the race in 1-minute, 18.46-seconds. Powers finished the 1,000 meter run in 3-minutes, 5.59-seconds.
The women's track and field team will take their ECAC qualifiers back to Boston, Mass. next weekend for perhaps their final contest of the indoor season. This will be the team's final chance at qualifying for the National Championship.
