Men's and Women's Track and Field Compete in URI Mega Meet

KINGSTON, R.I.- The University of Massachusetts men's track team placed fourth out of eight teams with 65 points and the women's placed eighth out of 12 teams with 20.33 points at the URI Mega Meet held at Mackal Field House on February 9.

Senior Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accra, Ghana) earned a first place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.33, setting a team and personal season best. Frimpong-Boateng also placed fourth in the 200-meter with a clocking of 22.48. Senior John O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.) finished third in the 500-meter with a 1:06.63. Junior Henry Smith (Ellington, Conn.) mark a jump of 13.60m in the triple jump, good for a second-place finish.

Sophomore Elisabeth Budd (Springfield, Mass.) placed third in the 500-meter with a 1:16.90, setting a new team and personal season best. Senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a clocking of 8.70, earning three points for the team. Senior Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) marked a 17' 0-1/2" height in the long jump, earning a fourth-place finish.

UMass men's track and field returns to action next Saturday, February 14 at the Fast Track Invitational in Boston, Mass. The women's team will be competing in the Valentine Invitational February 13-14 in Boston, Mass.
