KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Elisabeth Budd won the 500 meters and freshman Kristen Bakanowski won her third consecutive pole vault competition as the University of Massachusetts track and field team finished fifth out of nine teams at the Rhode Island `Go Rhody' Classic on Friday night.

Budd won the 500 meters with her time of 1:17.41, while Bakanowski won the pole vault with a mark of 11-feet, 3.75 inches.

Senior Christina Huff took second in the 55-meter dash with a season-best performance of 7.27 seconds. Fellow senior Marissa Kay Callahan rounded out the sprint leaders with a season-best time of 9.28 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, good for a seventh-place finish.

Senior Jennifer Iasiello rounded out the top performers with an eighth-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw (46-feet, 10.25 inches).

The Minutewomen finished fifth of nine teams with 61 points. Connecticut won the meet with 201.5 points followed by Brown (144.6 points) and Rhode Island (112 points).

UMass returns to competition on Friday, Jan. 28, when the Minutewomen compete at the Northeastern Invitational. The men's team opens its indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 22 at New Hampshire.
