Women's Track Places Second at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts Women's Indoor Track and Field team placed second with points against Boston University, Boston College and Sacred Heart Tuesday January 21st.
Junior Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.) led the way with first-place finishes in the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash with times of 7.27 and 26.02, respectively. Freshman Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) also had a strong performance in the 55-meter dash with a 7.54, finishing fourth. Senior Kishana Hudson (Deer Park, N.Y.) also scored points for the team with a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash, posting a time of 7.53 and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.58. Junior Stace Brown (Hartford, Conn.) finished second in the 400-meter with a time of 1:02.52. UMass also placed well in the 500-meter event with performances from sophomore Elisabeth Budd (Springfield, Mass.) whose time of 1:18.38 was good for third-place finish, senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) who placed fifth with a 1:20.18, and junior Jen Leahy (Jackson, N.J.) who finished eighth with a time of 1:23.46.
Senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) also placed third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.66. Senior Crystal Therrien (Fairhaven, Mass.) clocked a time of 9.28 good for a sixth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. The high jump was won by sophomore Ashley Creel (Sandwich, Mass.) who marked a jump of 5'3". Freshman Katelyn O'Toole whose jump of 5'3" was good for a second-place finish in the high jump. The Minutewomen placed well in the long jump event with performances from senior Chante Soares (Fall River, Mass.) whose jump of 5'-1/4" was good for a second place finish, freshman Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) who placed fourth with a 4'-3/4", and freshman Cheri Soares (Fall River, Mass.) who finished fifth with a mark of 4'-3/4".
Freshman Merissa Oliveira finished second in the shot put with a throw of 38'6". Junior Sara Johnson (Providence, R.I.) with a throw of 47'5" and Junior Jen Iasiello (Barrington, R.I.) who marked a 45' 2-1/2" were good enough for second and third place finishes, respectively, in the shot put.

The Minutewomen will be back in action next on Friday January 23 when they travel to Kingston, R.I., to compete against Rhode Island, CCSU, Yale, University of Hartford, Maine and Quinnipiac.
