UMass Tennis closes its fall season at the Big Green Invitational in Hanover, N.H. for a three-day tournament beginning November 1. Hosted by Dartmouth University, the tournament is made up of schools from both the A-10 Conference and the Ivy League.

Last fall the squad faced off against Dartmouth, Boston University and now three-time defending Ivy League Champion Yale. The Minutewomen tied Dartmouth in doubles, then defeated the Terriers in singles before losing to them in doubles play. On the final day of tournament action UMass faced a tough Yale squad and fell in both doubles and singles matches.

Last season, the opening round of the invitational saw wins from doubles pairs Arielle Griffin and Jessica Podlofsky in the No. 2 spot and Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper in the No. 3 spot. Griffin also tallied a win in her No. 4 singles match over Dartmouth.

Singles matches against Boston University proved to be the highlight of last year's invitational for the Minutewomen where the squad took home five of eight matches. Yale swept UMass in both doubles and singles on the final day of competition.

The Big Green Invitational marks the first action for the Minutewomen since the five-day ITA Northeast Regional tournament 11 days ago in Boston, Mass. Over the weekend freshman Aarzoo Malik advanced to round of 32 and finished 1-1 in both singles and doubles play alongside teammate Yuliana Motyl. The weekend lifted Malik to 3-2 overall in singles and 3-3 overall with Motyl in doubles action.

The squad enters the tournament 14-17 and 11-7 overall in singles and doubles play, respectively. The pair of Chanel Glasper and Jessica Podlofsky currently leads the Minutewomen in doubles with a 4-2 overall record and a 2-2 record in tournament action. Glasper, Malik and Motyl also lead the team in singles each with three victories apiece.

The invitational will prove to be a good predictor for the Minutewomen down the road, as the squad will faceoff against Dartmouth for a second time in the spring 2014 season. The Big Green Invitational concludes the 2013 fall season for the UMass tennis team. The Minutewomen return to action in the spring on January 31 where they will face off against Brown in Providence, R.I. at 3:30 pm.
