HANOVER, N.H. - The UMass Women's Tennis team returned from the ITA Regional hosted by Dartmouth this past weekend. UMass was well-represented in both singles and doubles throughout the event.
In the singles qualifying draw on Friday, Candynce Boney was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Stony Brook's Katherine Hanson.
Saturday featured both main draw singles and doubles. In doubles, Kaitlyn Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence were defeated 8-2 in the first round by Elizabeth Epstein and Blair Seiderman of Yale. The duo of Jessica Podlofsky and Clara Matias were also defeated, losing 8-4 to Stony Brook's Prerana Appineni and Aylin Mehter. Candynce Boney and Julia Comas won in the first-round by defeating the #7 seed, Harvard's Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton. Boney and Comas were then defeated in the second round by Alex Kelleher and Erina Kikuchi of Boston College.
In the main draw singles, Julia Comas won her first round match against Erin McCarthy of Marist, 6-4, 6-1. Comas then lost in the second round against the # 17 seed from Boston College, Erina Kukuchi, 6-1, 6-2. Overall for the weekend, Comas went 2-2 with wins in both singles and doubles.
Match play continues this afternoon with winner's to be crowned in both singles and doubles of the ITA Women's Division1 Northeast Regional Championships.
Looking Ahead:The Minutewomen conclude their fall season Nov. 5-7 at the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H.
