UMass Tennis Hosts Connecticut In Final Fall Dual Meet
Oct. 7, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - After 10 days off, the UMass tennis team prepares for its second home match of the fall as Connecticut visits the Mullins Center Courts this Wednesday at 1:30 PM. This will mark the first action for the Minutewomen since their season home opener two weeks ago where the team clinched a convincing 7-0 victory over Providence. The match will also be the team's final home contest and dual match for the 2013 fall season.
UMass looks to build off of the momentum of its previous outing against Providence where the Minutewomen swept not only the doubles matches, but also all six singles matches. Co-captains, Yuliana Motyl and Jessica Podlofsky, took the lead, winning both of their doubles and singles matches. Senior Sonia Bokhari also played a big role for the Minutewomen, clinching a No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles victory alongside Anna Woosley.
Connecticut enters the meet off a 6-2 home victory last Tuesday against Quinnipiac. Senior Jennifer Learmonth and freshman Shea Flanagan led the pack with strong showings in both singles and doubles play, while sophomore Srna Stosljevic, freshman Emma Alderman and senior Lucy Nutting also picked up victories in singles play. The Huskies also competed in tournament meets earlier in September at the Army Invitational and Quinnipiac Invitational.
In the last meeting, UMass blanked Connecticut 7-0 with Motyl picking up wins in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Bokhari and Podlofsky added to the team's success with No. 2 and No. 3 singles and doubles victories, respectively.
Following this week's contest, UMass will head off to Boston where the team will compete in the ITA Northeast Regionals, a five-day tournament beginning Thursday, October 17. After traveling to UMass, the Huskies will appear in the Women's College Invitational on October 11 before also competing in the ITA Northeast Regionals alongside the Minutewomen.
