AMHERST, Mass. - As part of its 20-year anniversary honoring head coach Judy Dixon, the UMass tennis team will host Providence on Saturday afternoon (1 PM) at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts. Admission is free to all! The day will begin with an alumni round robin doubles tournament followed by lunch and then the match with the Friars. Later on Saturday night, the men's and women's alumni will be hosted for a dinner to celebrate the last 20-years of UMass tennis.

UMass is coming off a strong showing last week at the Brown Invitational despite a rash of early season injuries. Still, veterans Yuliana Motyl and Chanel Glasper played well reaching the consolation championship matches in each of their matches. In doubles play, the duos of Sonia Bokhari and Iris Raileanu and Glasper and Jessica Podlofsky each earned three wins during the weekend.

For Providence, this will be its fourth weekend of competition having played already in three different tournaments - the Sacred Heart Doubles Tournament, the Quinnipiac Invitational and the Brown Invitational. Like UMass, this will also be the Friars' first dual match of the fall season.

The Minutewomen defeated the Friars last fall, 5-2, in Providence. UMass had a three-match sweep in doubles play before winning four of the six singles matches.

Following Saturday's match, UMass will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 PM against Connecticut at the Mullins Center Courts. That will give the Minutewomen two weeks off before competing in the ITA Northeast Regionals in Boston from Oct. 17-21.
