University of Massachusetts tennis head coach Judy Dixon has announced that seniors Yuliana Motyl and Jessica Podlofsky will serve as team captains for the 2013-14 season. The duo are two of the Minutewomen's top performers and will lead the program as it faces a challenging schedule throughout the fall and spring seasons.

The Minutewomen are coming off of a successful weekend in Providence, R.I., where the squad put up strong performances at the Brown Invitational. Motyl and Podlofsky displayed their leadership with impressive showings throughout the event.

Motyl led the team in singles play and went on to win the consolation championship of the Gold Singles Flight. Meanwhile in doubles action, Podlofsky picked up a trio wins alongside Chanel Glasper in doubles play. The duo won three consecutive matches to advance to the consolation finals of the Bear Doubles Flight before falling in the championship match to the host-Bears.

Motyl has been a strong contributor throughout her time with the Minutewomen. During her freshman and sophomore year, she posted five wins in first singles and eight victories during dual play for each campaign. As a junior, the Toronto native recorded first singles victories on six occasions and eight wins in dual play to total 10 victories on the season. Motyl was also a standout in doubles action clinching 17 of 21 matches. Last season, Motyl was paired with Chantal Swiszcz in doubles play with the pair ranking 6th overall in the ITA Northeast Region.

Sharing leadership with Motyl is Podlofsky. The Port Washington, N.Y., native was a standout rookie in 2010-11, earning 19 wins over 28 matches. She continued the strong play into her sophomore and junior seasons, where she recorded 24 and 18 total wins, respectively. Last year Podlofsky won 18 of 26 matches in doubles action alongside Arielle Griffin including 15 in dual matches. She currently ranks fifth all-time at UMass with 61 career singles wins.

Both Motyl and Podlofsky were honored last season as members of the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team.

The UMass Tennis team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when the Minutewomen will host Providence College at 1pm.
