Juacarlos Nunez Named ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's tennis assistant coach Juancarlos Nunez was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor, as announced by the organization. Nunez helped head coach Judy Dixon lead the Minutewomen to a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Semifinals as the squad finished with a 16-6 overall record and 5-1 mark in conference play.
Nunez is in his third year as an assistant coach at UMass, beginning his tenure with the program during the 2010-11 season. With Nunez's guidance, the Minutewomen capped the regular season with four consecutive victories, including key wins over Temple, 5-2 and Rhode Island, 5-1. UMass entered the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Tournament and claimed victories over Dayton, 5-0 and George Washington, 4-2 before falling to second-seeded Xavier to end the year.
Prior to arriving in Amherst, Mass., Nunez was a standout player at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), where the Valencia, Venezuela, native posted a 78-30 career record in singles play. Following graduation, Nunez serves as an assistant coach for the women's team at UALR during the 2008-09 campaign.
