Motyl and Malik Receive Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - Yuliana Motyl picked up her first Atlantic 10 accolade of the season, tabbed Women's Tennis Co-Performer of the Week alongside George Washington's, Leah Pascarella. Aarzoo Malik was also named the A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week for the second time this season.
Motyl went 2-0 last week in UMass' Senior Day win over Rhode Island. At No. 3 doubles, Motyl paired with Anna Woosley for an 8-3 victory against Taylor Holden and Jordan Rucks. Then at No. 1 singles, the senior picked up a three-set victory against URI's Galina Chernykh, winning in a 12-10 tiebreaker.
Aarzoo Malik picked up her second collegiate Atlantic 10 Conference honor, previously collecting the title of Rookie Performer of the Week after her strong conference efforts on April 8 against Saint Joseph's. In the Minutewomen's lone match of the week, Malik picked up wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, as the squad defeated A-10 foe, Rhode Island, on Senior Day. Alongside Arielle Griffin, the pair defeated Galina Chernyk and Elizaveta Sadovnikova, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Malik then recorded a straight set win over Kathleen Uy, 6-1, 6-4 at third singles. Malik finishes the spring season 10-4 in singles, riding a four-match win streak.
The 5th seeded Minutewomen are set to face 12th seeded Dayton on Thurday, April 24 at 9 a.m. in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The winner will move on to face the winner of the Richmond v. La Salle match on Friday.
