Tennis Heads To The Ocean State, Before Returning Home For Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team will close out their regular season this week with two on the road before returning home Sunday April 14 for Senior Day against Sacred Heart. The Minutewomen open up their two-game road trip in Kingston, R.I., Wednesday April 10, when they take on the University of Rhode Island. UMass will then head north to Smithfield, R.I. in a match against Bryant University on Saturday April 13.

The Minutewomen are 11-5 on the season, including 5-1 in conference play, 5-0 at home and 4-5 on the road.

Sunday will mark the final home meet for Julia Comas, Jocelyn Providence and Chantal Swiszcz. As a group the trio has gone 121-83 in singles play over their four years on the squad.

UMass is coming off a 5-2 win over Temple Saturday. The Minutewomen dominated singles play against the Owls winning four-of-six matches. Jessica Podlofsky sealed the win for UMass in the No. 4 singles spot with a win over Temple's Rebecca Breland, 6-4 7-6.

Yuliana Motyl and Swiszcz continue to lead UMass in doubles play with a 13-3 record, while three Minutewomen have jumped into double-digit wins in singles. Podlofsky leads the way with 11 wins while Chantel Glasper and Arielle Griffen each have 10 wins apiece.

Following the this weeks games, UMass will prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championships. The conference championship will be held at the Boars Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. beginning on Thursday April 18.
