Comas Earns A-10 Player / Rookie Of The Week Honors
April 5, 2010
AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Julia Comas (Barcelona, Spain) was named Atlantic-10 Co-Player / Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This is the second-straight week the freshman has earned A-10 conference honors, after receiving her first Rookie of the Week award of her career last week.
This marks the first time that Comas has been named A-10 Player of the Week, as she split both of the weekly honors with fellow freshman Mimi Hamling of George Washington.
The Minutewomen are riding a four-match winning streak following a, 7-0, victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday, with a lot of the success due to the play of Comas. The Barcelona, Spain native has won four-straight matches at No. 1 singles, including a 6-1, 6-1, win over the Pioneers' Kate Donnelly. The freshman then went on to team up with Tanisha Hodgson to coast to an, 8-1, win at No. 2 doubles.
UMass gets set to wrap-up their season this weekend with three home matches beginning Friday afternoon at the Mullins Courts when they host Albany.
