Tennis Heads To West Point For Trio Of Matches
Feb. 13, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team gets back on track this weekend with a trio of dual matches hosted at Army. The Minutewomen will face the Black Knights on Friday afternoon before taking on Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure on Saturday and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday morning.
This will mark the first action for the team since defeating Saint Joseph's on Feb. 3 at the Bay Road Tennis Club. Last Saturday, the Minutewomen were set to face Harvard in Boston, but the match was cancelled due to the effects of Superstorm Nemo.
UMass is 3-1 on the year following the weekend split against No. 67 Brown (4-3) and a convincing win over the Hawks (6-1). The three dual matches this weekend are part of a four-match stretch in just six days as the Minutewomen will next head to Dartmouth next Wednesday.
Army enters the weekend with a 3-0 record in dual meets with wins over Binghamton, Sacred Heart and Seton Hall. Like UMass, the Black Knights were forced to cancel matches last weekend as well.
The Bonnies are 2-4 this season with wins over Robert Morris and Slippery Rock, but have most recently suffered back-to-back losses against Pittsburgh and Colgate. They will take on Army on Friday night at 7 PM before facing UMass on Saturday at 3 PM.
FDU also enters the weekend after missing a schedule match last weekend. The Knights will face Rutgers on Wednesday as a tune-up to the weekend at Army. Fairleigh Dickinson is 2-0 this year with a fall wins over Monmouth and Seton Hall.
