PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- University of Massachusetts women's tennis freshman Masha Pozar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) and sophomore Michele Spiess (Stuttgart, Germany) both competed at the Wilson/ITA East Regional this past weekend held at the Levy Pavilion on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

In the main singles draw, Spiess won two matches before falling to Julia Koulbitskaya of Penn, 7-5, 6-2. Spiess had defeated Albany's Courtney Michels (6-1, 6-1) and Beatrice Grasu of Richmond (6-3, 6-3).

I doubles action, Spiess and Pozar lost their first match to Diana Srebrovic and Douglas Wink of Virginia, 8-2.

The Minutewomen will now be off until they resume their schedule Feb. 4, 2005. UMass hosts St. John's at the Bay Road Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m.
