Malik Falls In The Round Of 32 At ITA Regional Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After defeating Lauren Frazier of Cornell on Saturday to advance to the ITA Northeast Regional Championships Round of 32, UMass tennis freshman Aarzoo Malik was defeated on Sunday by fifth-seeded Jessica Wacnik of Boston College.

Despite the loss, it was a positive weekend overall for Malik who finished with a 1-1 singles record after having a first-round bye. Malik also went 1-1 in doubles play with partner Yuliana Motyl with their loss coming in the Round of 32 as well.

On Sunday, Wacnick won the opening set 6-2 before taking the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.

Malik is 3-2 overall this year in singles play with a 1-2 record in tournament play. She and Motyl are now 3-3 overall in doubles with a 2-2 record in tournament action.

The UMass tennis team returns to action this weekend at the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth. The final tournament of the fall will start on Friday with competition closing on Sunday.
