Women's Tennis Loses Two Matches At ECAC Championships.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Massachusetts women?s tennis team dropped two matches at the ECAC Tournament today in Princeton, N.J. UMass lost 5-0 to Syracuse and then lost 7-2 to Brown in the 16 team field.
UMass dropped the first match of the day 5-0 to Syracuse. UMass was swept by the Orangewomen in singles and doubles action. Senior Ola Gerasimova (Liatvia Ridge, Russia) fell to Lai Shareen 6-2 7-6 (6) at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) dropped a straight set 6-1, 6-1 loss to Anna Khuadina at No. 2 singles. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) lost to Michelle Neveklowska 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Katie Stammen (N. Attleboro, Mass.) fell to Masha Kabanova in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Beth Ebert (Westford, Mass.) was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles spot by Katie Thompson. The No. 5 singles spot was retired because Syracuse had already won the match.
In the second match of the day, UMass fell to Brown 7-2. At No. 1 singles Gerasimova defeated Heather Young, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. At the No. 2 spot, Horak fell to Mary Ellen deValle, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Hamilton fell to Olivia Wong, 6-0, 6-0. Stammen defeated Rebecca Rhee, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Sophomore Robyn Lebovitz (Marietta, Ga.) was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Jeannine Baillie at No. 5 singles. Ebert was defeated by Irene Adzuar, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot. UMass was swept in doubles play as Gerasimova and Hamilton fell to Young and Wong, 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, Horak and Stammen fell to Adzuar and Baillie, 8-6 and Lebovitz and Ebert lost to de Valle and Lauren Chung, 9-8 (4).
