In singles action, the Massachusetts women were dominant, winning five of six matches. In #2 singles, senior Jenny Munroe (Valencia, Calif.) defeated Alison Adamski 6-2, 6-3. In the #3 slot, Liehr took down LoRusso, 6-1, 6-1. In the #4 match, Edelstein tallied another Minutwoman point by downing Borek, 6-0, 6-3. In the #5 singles match, freshman Elizabeth Conyer (Paducah, Ky.) continued her winning streak against UConn, defeating Petruzzi, for the second straight time, 6-0, 6-4. Sophomore Jana Bartoloni (Charlestown, Mass.) closed out the scoring for Massachusetts, defeating Lazar, 7-5, 6-1.
The Minutewomen lost only two matches on the day. Price again fell victim to Simcik in the #1 singles, but not without another solid effort, taking it to a third set tiebreaker, before falling 4-6, 6-3, 4-10.
UMass will be in action next on Tuesday, Oct. 14, as they host local rival Williams, at the Upper Boyden Courts, at 3:00 p.m.
