Women's Tennis Defeats UConn, 6-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team swept through the doubles and then took all but the No. 6 singles to defeat the University of Connecticut, 6-1, this afternoon. The match was originally started on Sept. 29, but suspended due to rain. The Minutewomen are now 2-0 in dual action this fall. Doubles 1. Freshman Masha Pozar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) and sophomore Michele Spiess (Stuttgart, Germany) def. Whitney Simcik and Jennifer LoRusso, 8-1 2. Junior Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) and junior Susan Johnson (Annapolis, Md.) def. Barbara Schumsky and Elizabeth Dibbs, 8-4 3. Freshman Kristin DiPiero (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and senior Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) def. Christine Burek and Ashley Petruzzi, 8-4 Singles
