Tennis Beats UConn In Home Opener, 4-3

AMHERST, Mass. - Behind victories at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles, the UMass women's tennis team won its home opener, 4-3 over Connecticut, as the Minutewomen opened dual match play at the Mullins Courts on a windy Wednesday afternoon. Sonia Bokhari, Julia Comas, Jessica Podlofsky, and Chanel Glasper all won their matches for UMass.
Judy Dixon's squad had to come back from an early deficit as the Huskies took two out three doubles matches to take the first point, but the Minutewomen responded, winning four out of six singles matches to start the year 1-0 in dual matches after opening the season at a pair of tournaments.
Comas at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0), Podlofsky at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-1), and Glasper at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2) all cruised to victories in their matches, displaying the depth of the UMass lineup.
The key match of the day was Bokhari winning a close second set to win 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2 singles, clinching the match for UMass.
Podlofsky, a sophomore, remains perfect on the season in singles play with a 9-0 record, while Glasper, a freshman, improves to 8-1. The pair teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
UMass women's tennis returns to action on Sunday in a 1 p.m. match at Fordham.
