WORCESTER, Mass. - The UMass Minutewomen kicked off their first dual match of the season today with a definitive 7-0 victory over Holy Cross. After a successful showing at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational last weekend, where Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse won the No. 1 doubles title, the Minutewomen (1-0) showed off their talent again against the competitive Crusaders (1-3). The Minutewomen took the match without sacrificing a set, and dropping a total of only 22 games. The toughest match of the day came at No. 1 doubles where the recent champs defeated the team of Kristen Neahl and Caroline Chandley, 8-6.

At No. 1 doubles Boney and Lecluyse fought hard to maintain their undefeated record, which they did with an 8-6 win over Neahl and Chandley. At No. 2 doubles, Magdalena Ploch and newcomer Julia Comas made quick work of their opponents with an 8-0 win. At No. 3 doubles Tanisha Hodgson and Chantal Swiszcz defeated the Holy Cross team of Wilke and Daffon, 8-4.

Returning this season at No. 1 singles is sophomore Magdalena Ploch. Ploch defeated Holy Cross' senior captain Kristen Meahl with a straightforward win, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles freshman Comas showed off her talent making quick work of opponent Carolyn Chandley, 6-0, 6-0. Comas did not drop a game all day. At No. 3 Boney defeated Emily Marr 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3 singes Lecluyse defeated senior Ivette Kinopka. At No. 4 singles Kaitlyn Carpenter also made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0. At No. 6 singles Hodgson defeated Daffron, 6-2, 6-0.

 

 

The Minutewomen are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at the Mullins Courts when they host the UConn Huskies, play will begin at 2 p.m.
