Tennis Cruises Past Providence 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Behind a three match sweep in doubles play and winning four of six singles matches, the UMass tennis team cruised past Providence 5-2 on Thursday afternoon. Yuliana Motyl and Jessica Podlofsky each won singles and doubles matches as the Minutewomen open the season 1-0 in dual matches. Motyl teamed up with Chantal Swiszcz to win No. 1 doubles (8-2), while Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper won the No. 2 doubles (8-2). Podlofsky and Arielle Griffin completed the doubles sweep with another 8-2 win. For Motyl and Swiszcz, the win improves the duo to 6-1 on the season. Motyl, Julia Comas, Podlofsky and Jocelyn Providence each won singles matches as well. Glasper lost a close match in the No. 5 singles 3-6, 6-3 and 10-7. The Minutewomen will return to action next Thursday, Oct. 4 at UConn beginning at 2:30 PM. The match will be hosted at the UConn Tennis Courts. Doubles: Singles:
