Women?s Tennis Completes Day One Of SUnity Life Tennis Classic

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts duo of sophomore Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) and freshman Katie Stammen (North Attleboro, Mass.) will be gunning for a third-place finish in Flight 2 doubles at the SUnity Life Tennis Classic on Sunday, Sept. 12 in Syracuse, N.Y. They fell 8-4 to Cornell?s Jodie Hurley and Alex DelPrete in the semifinals on Saturday, Sept. 11, and will face the Rutgers? pair of Kristin Shaughnessy and Amandas Travlos for third place on Sunday.

In other doubles action, freshman Beth Ebert (Westford, Mass.) and junior April Madani (Falmouth, Mass) defeated Temple?s Tanja Zecic and Nina Kumar, 8-2, in the Flight 3 Doubles consolation semifinals. They will face the Syracuse duo of Shervin Saedinia and Tricia Sargent in the consolation finals on Sunday.

In singles action, senior Ola Gerasimova (Liatvia, Russia) will square off with Donna Krouzman from Rutgers for fifth-place in consolation Flight 1 Singles on Sunday. Gerasimova fell 6-3, 6-4, to Syracuse? Shareen Lai in the quarterfinals of the main draw on Saturday. Sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas), Stammen and Madani will also be looking for a fifth-place finish in their respective draws on Sunday.

Doubles matches will begin at 8 a.m., while singles matches will start at 9:30 a.m.
