Tennis Tops Dayton 4-0 In First Round Of A-10 Championship Play

MASON, Ohio - No. 5-seeded Massachusetts defeated No. 12 Dayton, 4-0, in the first round of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship Thursday morning at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The Minutewomen (12-8) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper inked an 8-2 No. 1 win to start off the morning, quickly followed by tandem, Yuliana Motyl and Anna Woosey, taking an 8-1 No. 3 victory to capture the doubles point. Aarzoo Malik and Arielle Griffin rounded out the doubles pairs with an unfinished 5-4 match in the No. 2 spot.
UMass then claimed No. 2 singles when Bokhari defeated Carly Peck, 6-1, 6-2, then took the No. 6 match when Glasper beat Dayton's Lily Iffert 6-0, 6-3.
Massachusetts finished the victory over Dayton (4-15) with a win at No. 4 singles, when Woosley defeated Mandy Marchant, 6-0, 6-1.
Motyl. Griffin and Podlofdky also competed in No. 1, 3 and 5 singles, respectively, but ceased play, as the squad had already advanced to the next round of A-10 Championship play.
The Minutewomen will now face No. 4 Richmond, winners over No. 13 La Salle, on Friday at 10:00 am.
