Tennis Outlasts Temple For Spot In A-10 Championship Match Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - In a battle that took over four hours, the top seeded UMass women's tennis team defeated the fourth seeded Temple Owls by a score of 4-3 in the Atlantic 10 Championship semi-finals today. The Minutewomen will now get the chance to compete for the school's second ever A-10 Championship Title tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. Judy Dixon's squad will take on #3 Richmond on Sunday. UMass once again got out to a fast start by taking the doubles point with wins from the first two doubles slots. The team's top two pairings of Yuliana Motyl / Chantal Swiszcz and Sonia Bokhari / Chanel Glasper recorded wins for the second time in the tournament. Swiszcz and Motyl have won their last five matches while Bokhari and Glasper have won their last six. UMass split the singles portion of the day,receiving wins from Sonia Bokhari at No. 2, Jessica Podlofsky at No. 4 and Chanel Glasper at No. 6. Bokhari's straight set victory over Alicia Doms gave UMass a quick 2-1 lead, but with the final singles match left the scoreboard was tied at 3-3. With all eyes on her court, freshman Chanel Glasper captured her team-leading 27th overall singles win to give UMass the victory. UMass will play once again at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow Sunday, April 22 against #3 Richmond for the Atlantic 10 Championship Title.
