Xavier Defeats Tennis 4-0 In Atlantic 10 Semifinals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Xavier picked up three quick wins in singles play after taking the doubles point to defeat the UMass women's tennis team 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament Semifinals at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Minutewomen finish the season with a 16-6 overall record after tournament wins against Dayton and George Washington.
The Musketeers earned the first win in doubles play in the No. 3 match as Alex Brinker and Andrea Wolf defeating Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper. The Minutewomen came back as Arielle Griffin and Jessica Podlofsky earned the win at No. 2 doubles. Xavier took the team point when Kally Alkire and Katie Pleiman defeated Chantal Swiszcz and Yuliana Motyl in the No. 1 match.
Three quick straight set wins in singles play sealed the win for Xavier. Binker defeated Motyl in No. 2 singles giving the Musketeers a 2-0 lead. That was followed by Lizzie Oosterbaan defeating Jocelyn Providence at No. 6 singles and Pleiman defeating Bokhari in No. 1 singles play.
Griffin was forced into a third set tie-breaker at No. 3 singles that went unfinished, while Podlofsky and Glasper were both in their second sets.
