COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team defeated George Washington, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament in College Park, Md., on Thursday. The win allows UMass to advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 1 seed Xavier at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

Junior Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) performed well for the Minutewomen, posting two victories in a close match. Depontes earned a straight set victory at No. 1 singles to earn a point for UMass and also recorded a win in doubles. Depontes and partner Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) defeated Tracy Wei and Lindy First, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles to help Massachusetts top George Washington.

The Minutewomen will continue their quest for their second conference title in three years when they face Xavier on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Xavier defeated Dayton, 4-0, in the quarterfinals on Thursday to advance to Friday's semifinal match.
