Senior Day Sweep Of Sacred Heart For Tennis

AMHERST, Mass. - In the final match of the regular-season, the UMass women's tennis team defeated Sacred Heart 7-0 for its sixth dual match sweep of the year. The Minutewomen honored their senior class of Julia Comas, Jocelyn Providence and Chantal Swiszcz prior to the match before taking their fourth consecutive win prior to the start of the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament next weekend.
The win over the Pioneers improved UMass to 14-5 overall. In Atlantic 10 play, the Minutewomen hold a 6-1 overall record and figure to be one of the top seeds in the upcoming conference tournament in Charlottesville, Va.
On Sunday afternoon, UMass started the match by winning all three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0.
Yuliana Motyl and Sonia Bokhari won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches in straight sets, respectively. Arielle Griffin was forced to a tie breaker after Nicole Rydzewski won the second set. Griffin won the third set 10-8 for the match win.
The first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament will begin on Thursday, April 18 at The Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. The four-day championship will conclude on Sunday, April 21 with the final match start at 10 AM.
