UMass Tennis Downs Sacred Heart 6-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - In the final away match of the 2013-14 season, the UMass tennis team topped Sacred Heart with a 6-1 victory on Saturday, April 12. UMass improves to 10-8 overall and 3-6 while on the road, while Sacred Heart drops to 7-11 overall and 6-3 on home courts.
The squad opened the afternoon sweeping the Pioneers in doubles play. Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper took the No. 1 doubles match with an 8-2 victory. Aarzoo Malik and Jessica Podlofsky continued the winning with an 8-5 No. 2 doubles win, followed by Yuliana Motyl and Anna Woosley who rounded out the doubles action in the No. 3 spot with an 8-1 win.
Following doubles play, the Pioneers looked to turn around the match with strong efforts in singles action. Katie DeRienzo started off singles play with a No. 1 win over Bokhari to tie up the match at 1.
The Minutewomen however wasted no time responding to the Pioneers with five unanswered wins in the remaining singles matches. Motyl clinched No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Lindsey Post, while Malik bested Sacred Heart's Paige Olsen, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match. Podlofsky, Woosley and Glasper finished off the afternoon with singles wins at No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively, all winning in straight sets.
The squad returns to action on Saturday, April 19 on the Mullins Center Courts where the Minutewomen will host conference rival, Rhode Island, on Senior Day in the final match of the regular season.
