Women's Tennis Edged By BU, 4-3

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team (7-11) fell to Boston University yesterday, on the Terriers' home courts. Senior co-captain Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued her winning ways, taking both her singles and doubles matches.
The Minutewomen began the match by taking the doubles point, winning two out of the three contests. The team of senior Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) and junior Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) took the #1 doubles, 8-6, while Hyams and junior co-captain Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) won the #3 match, 8-3. Sophomore Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) and freshman Christine Liehr (Stuttgart, Germany) fell in a close #2 match, 8-6.
In the singles tilts, Hyams defeated Monica Shephard in the #6 match, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3, while Iwanowicz downed Aimee Charest at the #5 spot, 6-4, 7-5. It was all Terriers from there though, as they won the remaining four matches to take out the Minutewomen, 4-3. Liehr had to forfeit at #1 due to injury, Price was taken down in the #2 spot, 6-0, 6-1, Edelstein lost the #3 match, 6-3, 6-4, and Depontes was downed at #4, 6-1, 6-1.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Monday, April 12, as they host Quinnipiac at 2:30 p.m at the Upper Boyden Courts, on Senior Day.
