April 7, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team won four-of-six singles matches and earned the doubles point in a 5-2 win over Temple on Saturday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. Jessica Podlofsky's win at No. 4 singles sealed the win as the Minutewomen improve to 5-1 in league play and 11-5 overall. UMass will return to action on Wednesday at Rhode Island.
The win snapped a two-match losing skid for the Minutewomen who also had two matches in that stretch cancelled due to weather. The return to the home courts aided the turnaround as UMass improves to 5-0 at the Bay Road Tennis Center this year in dual matches.
Bokhari defeated Temple's Yana Mavrina in straight sets at No. 1 singles, while Arielle Griffin won at No. 3 singles against Jordan Batey. Podlofsky's win over Rebecca Breleand at No. 4 singles sealed the match for the Minutewomen giving them a 4-0 lead before the Owls were able to earn a point with a victory at No. 2 singles.
Glasper's hard-fought win at No. 5 singles gave the the final score. Temple's Maame Ama Osei won the first set 6-3, but Glasper was able to win the second set 6-3 to force a tie-breaker. The third set ended with Glasper coming out on top 11-9 as the pair went toe-to-toe.
