Tennis Extends Win-Streak To 4 With 6-1 Win

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team extended its win-streak to four matches with a 6-1 win over conference rival, Saint Joseph's, this morning at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The squad is set to host another home match tomorrow on the Mullins Center courts at 12:30 p.m. against Boston University.
The Minutewomen took an early lead in doubles play when Aarzoo Malik and Arielle Griffin inked a 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Saint Joseph's Kristina Eisenbrand and Lauren Roy. Yuliana Motyl and Anna Woosley sealed the doubles point with a win in the No. 3 spot over Devi Jadeja and Anne Marie Devlin. Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper rounded out the doubles action in the No. 1 spot and tabbed a 4-5 unfinished contest.
UMass continued the winning into singles play, taking five-of six matches all in straight sets. Bokhari headed the charge in the No. 1 spot and took home a 6-2, 7-6 win over Aurora Davis. Motyl followed closely behind with a 7-6, 6-2, victory in No. 2 singles play. Malik, Griffin and Jessica Podlofsky clinched the match with wins in the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
The highlight of the match for the Hawks was a No. 6 singles victory from sophomore Arianne Polatnick.
The Mintutewomen return to action tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. to take on the Boston University Terriers in a non-conference match-up. Tomorrow will mark the second to last home match for the squad in the 2013-14 season.
