AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team (7-10) were victorious over the Rams of Fordham University (5-6) this afternoon, 4-2, as the two teams squared off at a neutral site. The competition involved only the singles matches, as the two teams opted not to play the doubles.

After falling in the #1 and #2 matches, the Minutewomen showed their depth as the #3-6 players all won their respective matches. Junior co-captain Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) breezed through the #3 match, taking down Cisa Vulin, 6-0, 6-0. At the #4 spot, Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) took out Danielle Spigner, while the #5 slot saw Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) drop Candice Lee, 6-0, 6-0. Senior co-captain Susan Hyams (Cincinatti, Ohio) took the #6 match, 6-3, 6-1 over Christina Leavenworth. Freshman Christine Liehr (Stuttgart, Germany), playing the #1 position, fell, 6-3, 6-3 to Christina Papa. The closest match of the day came out of the #2 slot, as Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) lost a tough battle, 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 to Donia Sandor.

The Minutewomen will be back in action on Tuesday, April 6, as they host Holy Cross at 2:30 p.m at the Upper Boyden Courts. This match will mark the first spring outdoor home match for the maroon and white, as they have not hosted a match since their Feb. 20 indoor win over Temple.
