UMass Pulls Out A Close Win At Charleston Southern, 4-3
March 19, 2008
CHARLESTON, S.C. - In the first game of their two-game road trip over spring break, the UMass team pulled out a close victory over Charleston Southern University, 4-3. It was their strong doubles play and the victories by their Nos. 1, 5 and 6 singles that allowed the Minutewomen to take the win.
For the sixth time this season, UMass doubles started out the match to win the doubles point and give the Minutewomen the early advantage. Masha Pozar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Candynce Boney (Las Vegas, Nev.) won their 16th doubles match of the season in their 9-8 (5) win over the Buccaneers. Pozar is now only one win away from tying the UMass career doubles record. The doubles pair of Laura Danai (Holyoke, Mass.) and Maude Lecluyse (Montreal, Canada) cruised by their No. 3 foes, 8-2 to capture the doubles point.
In singles play Pozar won once again to capture her 10th singles victory of the year, just one shy of Boney, the team leader in singles wins. Tanisha Hodgson (Savaneta, Aruba) won her second singles match of the season (6-4, 6-2) and her second in a row. Danai followed right behind defeating her No. 6 singles foe by the same score.
