Women's Tennis Falls To No. 12 Barry, 5-2

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team (5-9, 2-0 A-10) fell at No. 12-ranked Barry University yesterday afternoon, 5-2. This match marked the second of three that the Minutewomen will play in the Sunshine State.
The Buccaneers began the match by winning the doubles point, as they took two out of three matches. At the #1 spot, junior Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) and sophomore Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) lost 8-6, while co-captains junior Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) and senior Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) fell in the #2 slot, 8-6 as well. Freshman Christine Liehr (Stuttgart, Germany) and sophomore Jana Bartoloni (Charlestown, Mass.) won by default, as the #3 match was not played.
In the singles competition, Edelstein won the #3 singles match when her opponent was forced to forfeit due to injury midway through the second set, after winning the first set 6-4. Hayms also received a win by default at #6 singles, as the match was not played. At the #1 spot, Liehr fell, 6-0, 6-3, Price lost the #2 match, 6-2, 6-4, Iwanowicz fell at #4, 6-2, 6-2, and Bartoloni was downed, 6-2, 6-3 at the #5 spot.
The Minutewomen will be back in action Wednesday, March 17, as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on Lynn University in the final match of its Florida roadtrip.
