Tennis Takes Care Of Tennessee-Chattanooga, 6-1

Delray Beach, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts (7-5) was too much for Tennessee-Chattanooga (0-12) and defeated the Mocs, 6-1, this afternoon in tennis action. A-10 Rookie of the Week Masha Pozar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Michele Spiess (Stuttgart, Germany) added on to her impressive record with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles to improve her mark to 16-3. Junior Dorothy Iwanowicz (Hilton Head, S.C.) notched a win at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 while juniors Susan Johnson (Arnold, Md.) and Jana Bartoloni (Quincy, Mass.) won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. The Minutewomen also found their stroke in doubles competition and came away with a sweep. Pozar and Spiess paired up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Iwanowicz and Johnson won at No. 2 play, 8-5, while senior Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) and Bartoloni took the No. 3 match, 8-3. UMass is now 1-1 in their Florida trip and will face Army tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM. Doubles: 2. Iwanowicz and Johnson def. Ballard and Guerrieri, 8-5. 3. Edelstein and Bartoloni def. Harpe and Adams, 8-3.
