Tennis Comes Up Short Against Cornell, 6-1

Ithaca, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts (6-4) lost to Cornell University (5-2) this afternoon, 6-1, in women's tennis action. Sophomore Michele Spiess picked up the only point for the Minutewomen, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Spiess improved her singles record to an impressive 14-3. Junior Dorothy Iwanowicz fell short at No. 4 singles, losing 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, while senior Sasha Edelstein also forced three sets, falling 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The Minutewomen continue their road trip when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for four matches beginning on March 13 when they face Lynn University. Doubles: 1. Kokubo/Edinson def. Susan Johnson/Dorothy Iwanowicz, 8-4. Singles: 1. Spiess def. Kokubo, 6-2, 6-4.
