Ithaca, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts (6-3) took a pair of matches played at Cornell on Saturday. In their first match, the Minutewomen defeated UMBC, 5-2, and notched a 4-3 victory over Binghamton in the nightcap.

In the first match versus UMBC, UMass went 5-1 in singles play to seal the victory. Sophomore Michele Spiess, freshman Masha Pozar, junior Dorothy Iwanowicz, senior Sasha Edelstein, and junior Jana Bartoloni all won their singles matches for the Minutewomen.

In the nightcap against Binghamton, Iwanowicz went into her singles match with the score tied at 3-3. She edged her opponent at No. 3, 7-5, 7-5, to lift UMass to victory. Edelstein and Bartoloni both won their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Bartoloni was a perfect 3-0 on the day, winning both of her singles matches and winning at No. 3 doubles with Edelstein.

The No. 1 doubles team of Spiess/Pozar notched a 8-2 win while Edelstein/Bartoloni won 8-3 in their No. 3 match to earn the Minutewomen their doubles point.

Iwanowicz improved her singles record to 8-1 with her two victories on Saturday while Spiess is now 13-3. The doubles team of Iwanowicz and junior Susan Johnson, who were victorious in their No. 2 doubles match against UMBC, are now 7-2.

Massachusetts will face Cornell on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
