Weekend Sweep As Tennis Defeats Binghamton 6-1

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team won its second match in as many days with a 6-1 victory over Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The Minutewomen swept doubles play before Jessica Podlofsky's win at No. 3 singles sealed the match for UMass. Overall, the Maroon & White won five of the six singles matches on the day. The win improves UMass to 9-2 overall on the year, while Binghamton falls to 3-8 in dual matches. The Minutewomen won all three doubles matches to start the day with the doubles point. Podlofsky and Arielle Griffin highlighted the play with an 8-0 win over Sara Kohtz and Missy Edelblum in the No. 3 match. Griffin then made quick work at No. 4 singles defeating Shea Brodsky, while Sonia Bokhari followed suit with a straight set win over Kohtz at No. 2 singles. With UMass leading 3-0, Podlofsky sealed the team win with her victory over Alexis Tashiro in No. 2 singles. After the first set went to a tie-breaker game with Podlofsky winning 7-6, she then won the second set 6-0. In No. 1 singles, Yuliana Motyl battled back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to take the second one 6-2, but Binghamton's Katherine Medianik won the tie-breaker set 6-1 for the Bearcats lone point of the day. Chanel Glasper and Jocelyn Providence each went on to win straight set matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles play, respectively.
The Minutewomen will return to action next Friday and Saturday with a pair of matches against Xavier and Dayton. UMass will face the Musketeers on Friday before meeting the Flyers on Saturday afternoon. UMass 6
