Women's Tennis Falls to Yale, 7-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team lost all of its' matches yesterday, as they dropped a 7-0 desicion to the Bulldogs of Yale in non-conference action.

Freshman Francesca Mancini (Milan, Italy) was the only Minutewomen to force a third game in her match, as she dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision to Yales' Andrea Goldberg in No. 1 singles. The Bulldogs swept the remaining singles matches.

In doubles, the No. 1 tandem of Mancini and freshman Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) took Goldberg and Biffy Kaufman to the limit, but lost a heartbreaker, 9-8. They were defeated 8-6 in the tiebreaker. Junior Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) and freshman Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) did pick up a win at No. 3 doubles, but Yale won two out of three and earned the one doubles point.

The Minutewomen will look to rebound this weekend when they participate in the Cornell Invitational. The three-day tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 16, in Itaca, N.Y.
