Tennis Finishes Weekend Undefeated At Home

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team capped off its first weekend of home matches with a second 6-1 victory over Long Island University on Sunday, February 9 at the Bay Road Tennis Center following the squad's 6-1 win over Bryant on Saturday.
The Minutewomen remain undefeated against the Northeast Conference opponent winning two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. The victory extends the squad's winning streak against Long Island to six and the team's win streak on home courts to 16.
The Minutewomen recorded two 6-2 victories with doubles pairs Yuliana Motyl and Arielle Griffin, and Aarzoo Malik and Jessica Podlofsky in the No. 1 and No. 2 spot, respectively. Motyl and Griffin finished the weekend undefeated in doubles play, helping the squad clinch the doubles point in back-to-back home matches. Anna Woosley and Chanel Glasper rounded out doubles play in the No. 3 spot falling just short to Long Island's Lisa Maas and Nancy Zonneveld to a score of 6-3.
UMass clinched all but one singles matches in straight sets. Senior captain Motyl led the charge with a 6-2, 6-4 finish in the No. 1 spot against Sanne Louwers. Four Minutewomen ended the weekend undefeated in singles matches including Malik, Griffin, Woosley and Glasper. Malik secured the No. 2 singles win 6-1, 6-4 while Griffin recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Woosley and Glasper also completed straight sets victories 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 and No. 6 spot, respectively. Podlofsky completed the singles roster at No. 3 against Long Island's Marine Dans.
The Minutewomen are back in action next weekend for their final two home matches before hitting the road on a two-month stretch of away contests. UMass will face Army this Friday on Valentines Day at 10:30 a.m. and Boston College on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
