Feb. 3, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches en route to a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The win improves the Minutewomen to 3-1 in dual matches this year with UMass returning to action next Saturday at Harvard. UMass won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to start the afternoon. Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz teamed up to defeat Casey Robinson and Kristina Eisenbrand 8-4, while Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper defeated Lauren Roy and Aurora Davis 8-5. The Minutewomen missed a sweep of the doubles action as Kelly Mulquin and Devi Jadeja earned a hard-fought 8-6 win over Jessica Podlofsky and Arielle Griffin. In singles play, UMass won all but the No. 1 singles spots. Bokhari, Griffin, Podlofsky, Chanel Glasper and Jocelyn Providence each won in straight sets. The Hawks won the No. 1 singles as Casey Robinson defeated Yuliana Motyl in three sets. Robinson won the first set 6-4 before Motyl forced a tiebreaker with a 6-4 win in the second set. Both players battled in the third set with Robinson eventually coming away with a 10-8 win.
