Baylark, Lovejoy Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week
Oct. 23, 2006
AMHERST, Mass. - Senior tailback, Steve Baylark (Apopka, Fla.) and senior swimmer Liz Lovejoy (Reading, Mass.) have been named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 22 after outstanding individual weekend performances.
Baylark piled up the 10th-best rushing day in UMass history with 235 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns. It was his first career 200-yard game and first by a UMass player since 2000.
Lovejoy led all swimmers on Saturday afternoon by winning three events and swimming the anchor leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Her performances helped the Minutewomen defeat Stony Brook, 190-110. She won the 200 fly, the 100-yard freestyle, and the 500-yard freestyle and then closed the meet as the anchor leg of the 400 free relay team.
This was the first time that Lovejoy won three individual events in one meet. All of her times were season-best marks for herself and the team.
Baylark and Lovejoy will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, October 25 at Noon. The luncheon will be held at the Campus Center, Room 1009. The guest speakers will be football coach Don Brown and women's swimming coach Bob Newcomb.
