NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts' Michaela Butler and Meriza Werenski were named the Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming & Diving Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Butler won both the one- and three-meter boards in record fashion of Saturday's season-opening dual meet against Boston University. Her score of 339.23 in the 3-meter broke her own pool record, while she followed with her 336.23 in the 1-meter gave her the school and pool benchmarks.

This marks the second weekly award for the Dennisport, Mass. native. She earned the same honor last season on Jan. 15, 2013.

Werenski scored 22 individual points on the day (24 total), posting a pool record in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.79. That added a second gold to her haul after she opened the swimming portion of the meet in back-to-back events, swimming breaststroke in the 200 medley relay before claiming first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:16.44 - less than 10 minutes after her relay race.

It is the first rookie of the week honor of the year for the newcomer from South Hadley, Mass. Current sophomore Jocelyn Yuen won four rookie awards last season.

The Minutewomen took first place in 10 of 16 overall events to defeat BU 155-145. The win was their first over the Terriers in a dual setting since the 2005-06 season, snapping a seven-meet skid.

UMass will face Army this Saturday at 2 p.m. in West Point, N.Y.
