Swimming & Diving Teams Announce 2011-12 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - The 2011-12 season schedules have been announced by UMass men's swimming coach Russ Yarworth, women's swimming coach Bob Newcomb, and diving coach Mandy Hixon. There will be four home meets for the women, three for the men, as well as the UMass Diving Invitational.

Aside from the home meets, season highlights include the three-day Terrier Invitational at Boston University in November, the program's annual training trip to Puerto Rico in January, and the season's culmination at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. on February 22-25.

Both teams open the season with three-straight single-day dual meets in October. The Minutemen and Minutewomen open the season at home on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. against Boston University, before hitting the road to face Army on Oct. 22, and then return home take on Stony Brook on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.

The Joseph Rogers Pool will host its third event in four weeks on Nov. 4-5 when Binghamton comes to Amherst for a two-day meet that leads into the peak of the fall season, the Terrier Invitational on Nov. 18-20.

On Dec. 3, the teams split up with women hosting Northeastern in a noon meet at home, while the men travel to Yale for a 1 p.m. meet.

During winter break, the teams will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico for their annual week-long training trip, culminating with the Loyola Invitational on Jan. 8.

The Rhode Island Invitational will be held Jan. 13-14 in Kingston, R.I. and a week later, the swimming teams head to Bryant for a 5 p.m. meet on Jan. 20 and the diving teams hosting the UMass Diving Invitational at the Rogers Pool on Jan. 22.

The Upper Valley Invitational will be held Jan. 27-28 in White River Junction, Vt. leading into the final home meet of the season, Senior Day vs. Fordham on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.

The teams will head to Buffalo, N.Y. and the campus of Erie Community College for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Feb. 22-25. The Minutemen have won the last five conference titles and 13 overall, while the Minutewomen, the 2011 A-10 champs, finished third in 2011, their seventh year in a row in the top four.



The NCAA Division I Zone A Diving Qualifying Meet will be held on March 9-11, while the NCAA Championships for the women will be held on March 15-17 at Auburn and the men's will be on March 22-24 in Seattle.
