MINNEAPOLIS - University of Massachusetts senior diver Michaela Butlerwill open her final collegiate competition on Thursday when the 2014 NCAA Division Women's Swimming & Diving Championships gets underway at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Butler is the most accomplished diver in UMass and Atlantic 10 history, winning three Diver of the Year awards and adding fourth place in the 1-meter springboard at last year's NCAA meet - earning her the school's first All-America award in diving. She also took 14th in last year's NCAA 3-Meter competition.
"It's the goal of the season to make it to this meet," Butler said. "I'll just try to approach it just like last year since that was a pretty successful run for me."
Her 6-dive routine on the 1-meter has a degree of difficulty of 15.20 - the second-highest of the 29 entrants.
The meet begins with the 1-meter prelims at 11 a.m. Thursday and the top eight advancing to the championship finals at 7 p.m. The Dennisport, Mass. native will compete in the 3-meter on Friday with the same schedule.
The entire 3-day meet will be streamed live on the internet with links at UMassAthletics.com, including Friday and Saturday's finals on ESPN3.
