Feb. 12, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams remain ranked in the top-25 Collegeswimming.com Mid-Major poll. The Minutemen drop one spot to No.18 while the Minutewomen move up one to No. 21 in the final poll until after conference championships. Harvard and Princeton remain atop the women's and men's polls, respectively.
The Mid-Major Rankings serve to provide an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
Of the men's opponents this season, five sit in the top-25. Army leads the pack ranked at No. 9, they are followed by No. 12 Dartmouth, No. 13 Brown, No. 20 Boston University and No. 24 Boston College. The only other Atlantic 10 team in the top-25 is St. Bonaventure, who remains at No. 21.
The only opponent of the women in the top-25 is No. 17, Brown University. The Minutewomen are the lone representatives of the A-10 in the top-25. Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, La Salle and Xavier are all ranked outside the top-25.
