Jan. 18, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams are all set to take on Bryant University, Saturday January 19 from Joseph Rogers Pool at 1 p.m. This is the final home meet of the season for either team and they will each honor their five seniors prior to the opening buzzer. Both teams are coming off wins at the Rhode Island Invitational last weekend and look to keep that momentum going with just about a month left until Atlantic 10s. The meet will be broadcast live online on UMass All-Access.
The Minutemen will honor five members of their squad who have made tremendous contributions over the past four years. They will be sending off senior captains Beau Garufi and Tim O'Neill, along with fellow seniors Peter Sacco, Alexander Merkulov and Eric Zeimetz.
Last season against Bryant the teams split. The men won 12 of 13 events against the Bulldogs, while the women fell on the final relay.
Sacco had a stellar meet last year against for the Minutemen winning both the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly. He also won as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team. Chris Inglis closed out the sprint free events winning both the 100- and 200-yard freestyles.
On the women's side Zoe Judd was able to capture two of the four individual top finishes for UMass. She took first in the 200-yard freestyle to go along with the 100-yard butterfly.
Following this weekends action, both teams will be back at it next weekend when they travel to Dartmouth for the Upper Valley Invitational before concluding the regular season at Fordham on February 2.
