Juan Moliere, Christa Narus Earn Weekly Swimming Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - After leading the UMass men's and women's swimming & diving teams to wins at the Rhode Island Invitational last weekend, Juan Moliere and Christa Narus each received weekly honors for their outstanding individual performances. Moliere was named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week, while Narus was named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week. The swimming & diving teams will return to action this Saturday afternoon at Boston College.
Moliere (San Juan, Puerto Rico) won both the 50 free (21.83) and 100 free (48.34) events and swam the anchor leg of the winning 400 medley relay (3:34.85) team as UMass won the Rhode Island Invitational. He also swam the anchor leg of the third place 200 free relay team (1:28.31), swam the anchor leg of the fourth place 400 free relay (3:18.72) and placed sixth in the 200 free (1:50.17). He led UMass with factoring into a total of 112 of the Minutemen's 944.5 points.
Narus (Stony Brook, N.Y.) won the 200 fly (2:10.34), took second in the 500 free (5:18.02), took third in the 200 free (1:58.43), swam the third leg of the second place 200 medley relay (1:52.46), swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay (3:42.02), the third leg of the third place 400 medley relay (4:04.29) as the Minutewomen won the Rhode Island Invitational.
Both teams were coming off their winter holiday training trip in Puerto Rico.
Moliere will be honored on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncehon which will be held in Room 1009 of the Campus Center. Head men's swimming coach Russ Yarworth and head women's coach Bob Newcomb will be featured speakers at the luncheon. To make reservations to attended fans can call 413-545-4290.
